Crich Photo line-ups: Non-standard gauge – 2017

Our next line-up on the Crich depot fan took place in 2017 and coincided with Bournemouth 85’s arrival which gave the chance to display several trams which originally ran on non-standard gauge.

This line-up was seen at Tram Day on 16th September 2017 – and it was a photographic case of must try harder to get all the trams into one photo! In total five trams were displayed as part of the line-up. Joining Bournemouth 85 were Derby 1, Hill of Howth 10, Glasgow 1068 and Sheffield Works 330. 85 is the only one of these trams which sits on a non-standard gauge truck with all others having received standard gauge trucks upon arrival at the museum.

The back three trams of this line-up were Glasgow 1068, Sheffield Works 330 and Bournemouth 85 as seen here. 85 remained on the Traverser throughout with a special piece of track added to ensure it could sit on 3’6” gauge.

Later on in the day and 330 was moved (to allow for a South Coast tram line-up) and its after that move that we see the remainder of the five tram line-up (with Glasgow 1068) also moved out the way. The Sheffield car leads the queue with Hill of Howth 10 and Derby 1 behind. Bournemouth 85 then completes the queue. (Both Photographs by Gareth Prior)
