No Metro services to South Hylton for at least a week

There will be no Tyne and Wear Metro services running between Park Lane and South Hylton for at least seven days as a result of flood damage caused to a Network Rail substation last week. The damage was experienced on Thursday 17th November and Network Rail engineers are now assessing the damage before deciding on a repair plan.

For at least seven days it means that there will be no trains serving University, Millfield, Pallion or South Hylton. A revised service every 24 minutes will be running every 24 minutes between Pelaw and Park Lane (every 30 minutes on Sunday).

Paul Rutter, East Coast Route Director for Network Rail, said: “We’re really sorry for the disruption between Park Lane and South Hylton, which has been caused by flood damage. We’re working with Nexus to keep passengers moving wherever we can while we plan and carry out repairs. There will likely be changes to services over the coming days, so people should check before travelling.”
