New pay offer for Tramlink drivers – further ballot to come

The ongoing pay dispute on London Tramlink has taken another turn with a new pay offer made by Tram Operations Limited (operator of the network) with the ASLEF Executive Committee now recommending its members accept the offer.

When we last reported on the dispute, there was to be a new ballot of ASLEF drivers at Tramlink as it had been six months since the previous one (legally ballots need to be every six months, unless agreed by the employer in which case it can be every nine). At this time the pay offer was 2% backdated to November 2021 and then 4.75% in each of November 2022 and November 2023 and it was still recommended for rejection by the union.

However, further negotiations have now taken place which has seen a further offer made for November 2021, although the increases for 2022 and 2023 have not changed. This now means the following is on offer:

November 2021 – 4.5%

November 2022 – 4.75%

November 2023 – 4.75%

The November 2021 increase would be backdated and the November 2022 increase would be introduced straightaway.

These three year pay offer will now be put to ASLEF members with a recommendation from the Executive Committee that it is accepted. Results of the ballot will be released in due course.
