New team at Department for Transport confirmed

With a new Prime Minister in post there has also been a lot of movement in the ministerial team at the Department for Transport. Long-standing Secretary of State Grant Shapps has been removed and replaced by Anne-Marie Trevelayn whilst there are also new ministers and Under Secretary’s in place too.

Anne-Marie Trevalyn has been an MP since 2015 when she was elected to the Berwick-on-Tweed constituency. Previous governmental appointments have included Secretary of State for International Development, Minister of State for the Armed Forces, Minister for Defence Procurement and Minister of State for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change.

She will be joined at the Department for Transport by:

  • Robert Courts – Parliamentary Under Secretary of State
  • Lucy Frazer QC – Minister of State
  • Baroness Vere of Norbiton – Parliamentary Under Secretary of State
  • Kevin Foster – Minister of State

Baroness Vere retains her responsibilities for light rail (including tram, underground and metro systems).

Although there has been a change at the top in the DfT it is probably unlikely that it will mean much change for government policy in relation to trams and light rail.
