Not Still Standing! Bennett Street Parcel Depot, Ardwick

Its “Still Standing” with a difference today as its not! We return to a previous location as we see the former Bennett Street Parcel Depot in Ardwick, Greater Manchester during its recent demolition.

We previously featured this location back in August 2020 as part of a wider article looking at the once vast Hyde Road Depot and Works. The entire complex dates back to 1902 with initially trams, then trolleybuses and then buses all calling it home – the last trams departed in 1948. Whilst much of the building was demolished to allow for redevelopment, parts did remain in situ – including the Bennett Street Parcel Depot.

It is this which was being demolished during August 2022, presumably to allow more redevelopment of the area.

Taken from a passing train – and with the Etihad Stadium in the background – this view shows the building under demolition on 25th August 2022.

A day later and at ground level we see fencing in place to protect the worksite with much of the building having been removed and more to come. (Both Photographs by Keith Chadbourne)
