Out and About: Trams around St Andrew Square in Edinburgh

“Out and About” returns today as we take a trip to St Andrew Square in Edinburgh – the current city centre terminus of the Edinburgh Trams system – to see some of the trams in service.

257 arrives at St Andrew Square from the Airport. The removal of the York Place tramstop has meant that trams now show the destination ‘St Andrew Square’ as the terminus, a destination which was never previously used. The tram will now run empty to York Place to reverse over the crossover before returning to St Andrew Square.

271 arrives from the Airport and unloads at St Andrew Square.

After reversing at York Place crossover tram 275 climbs the gradient from York Place to St Andrew Square to pick up passengers. The Edinburgh bus station entrance is on the right of the picture.

Having returned from York Place tram 257 loads for the journey to Airport. (All Photographs by John Hampton, 26th April 2022)
