In Pictures: York Place prepares to say goodbye to trams

With Edinburgh Trams’s York Place stop closing in just a few days – last departures on 9th February – in the coming days we will be sayign farewell to the stop with several pictorial articles of trams at York Place. We start with this early February collection from John Hampton.

256 has just arrived at the stop from Airport in an unusually quiet York Place.

A shot from the pavement of the other side of the tram waiting to return to Airport. It retains adverts for CR Smith.

256 traverses the crossover on its way to Airport showing the stub end of track which will be connected to the line to Newhaven but will require the York Place tramstop to be removed.

A general view of the tramstop showing the platform equipment. This is the only stop on the route which has a conventional bus type shelter, all the other stops have rather stylish stainless steel shelters.

The temporary buffer stop at York Place will be removed and the track joined to the extended track to Newhaven. The new tramstop in Picardy Place will replace the York Place stop and will be situated about 50 metres further to the east of the current stop. This shot shows how near the worksite has come to the present tracks. (All Photographs by John Hampton)
