Memorial unveiled to “Benton the tram stop cat” in Nottingham

A memorial has been unveiled at Nottingham Express Transit’s Inham Road tramstop to “Benton the tram stop cat” who sadly died in the summer. Benton was a much-loved cat who was frequently found at  the tramstop and was popular amongst commuters, tram users and local residents.

Benton had a love for sitting at the tramstop and warmly greeting residents and tram users. This inspired a huge community reaction, national media interest and his own Twitter page!

His owner, Ginny Hicks, confirmed in the summer that he had sadly died and received a huge number of tributes to Benton and as a result plans were put in place to create a memorial to celebrate Benton and the fond memories he inspired amongst tram users.

Stephanie Moss-Pearce, from Nottingham Express Transit, said: “Benton the tram stop cat was a local hero that put a smile on the face of everyone he met, helping the important role of the tram in bringing communities together. We hope the memorial unveiled today is a fitting tribute to Benton and the fond memories he brought to tram users and local residents.”

The memorial was unveiled on Monday 13th December and can be found at Inham Road tramstop.

  • A Go Fund Me page has been setup by Benton’s owner to help Mansfield Cat Rescue who helped during the search for the cat. You can find out more at https://gofund.me/af46fd21.
