Free late night trams back for Hogmanay in Edinburgh

Edinburgh Trams have confirmed that they will again be operating free late night trams between midnight on 31st December and 0500 on 1st January between West End and Edinburgh Airport to help people get back from the Hogmanay celebrations in the city centre.

Trams will be running every 20 minutes (no trams will run between West End and York Place from 1700 on 30th December because of the celebrations) from West End to Edinburgh Airport between midnight 31st December and 0500 on 1st January 2022. Travel will be free in this period only and anyone who wants to park at Ingliston Park and Ride can do so with the usual overnight parking restrictions removed.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, said: “This year sees a welcome return of the city’s world-famous Hogmanay celebrations, and we are gearing up to play our part in helping people to make the most of all the attractions. Since the first free night trams were introduced at the turn of 2017, they’ve proved a huge success. In 2019 alone, we transported more than 5,000 customers during the night, and we’re delighted to once again be able to help visitors to make the most of a very special night and to enjoy a safe journey home afterwards.”

Plans for Hogmanay in Edinburgh City Centre currently include a torchlight procession to open the celebrations while there will be the Party of the Bells which will include double BRIT and Grammy Award-winning Basement Jaxx soundtracking the traditional firework display.
