In Pictures: Trackworks at Bilston Central

You may remember that before the complete West Midlands Metro service was abandoned to allow the cracks on the trams to be repaired that it was announced that there would be some overhead and track replacement on sections of the network during November. It may not be as high profile after the tram issue but over the past couple of weekends there has been some track replacement works at Bilston Central as we see in this latest pictorial update.

Track in both directions through the Bilston Central tramstop has been replaced with finishing works now underway to replace the paving between the two platforms. Although the original plan had been for the work to all be completed over weekends additional work has been taken during the week (on the finishing works) now that there are no trams to get in the way. Last weekend was due to be the completion of the trackworks which were happening between Bilston Central and the Crescent.

Additional work due to take place during November was around Jewellery Quarter where the overhead was due to be upgraded overnight Mondays to Thursdays.

In this shot we are looking north towards Wolverhampton. New tracks are in place in both directions and we can also see the continued work on the crossing.

A closer view north showing the work still required on the crossing.

Another view of the crossing with bricks seemingly waiting to be put back in place. (All Photographs by Andy Walters, 23rd November 2021)
