Around the World in Trams: Melbourne 939 “Cuthberts”

The Ballarat Tramway Museum is again the location for the “Around the World in Trams” today.

Another tram which once ran on the large system in Melbourne we today feature 939 which is also known as “Cuthberts” and is a function tram. Built in 1948 as a standard SW6 tram it remained in service all the way through to the mid-1990s – even including a role in the film Malcolm! In 1994/5 it was converted into a restaurant tram becoming Restaurant Tram no. 3 and remained operational until May 2012 when it was withdrawn from service for the last time. The Ballarat Tramway Museum acquired it in 2014 and received a grant to restore it with the tram being completed in 2016. It is now named after Sir Henry Cuthbert who was the first Chairman of the Ballarat Tramway Company.

Seen inside the depot this is an external view of Cuthberts.
