Welcome the Trambassadors in Nottingham

Nottingham Express Transit’s new Corporation Social Responsibility Strategy is currently being introduced and one of the first strands of this is the introduction of “Trambassadors”. Two young children from Alderman Pounder Infant and Nursey School in Chilwell have become the first “Trambassadors” in the city with the aim to provide an important community link for NET as well as providing learning opportunities for children.

Tim Hesketh, CEO of Tramlink Nottingham, said: “We want to engage with schools and local children so we can work even more closely with the communities we are proud to serve. We’re looking forward to hearing from our young Trambassadors about what we can do to improve as well as discussing the importance of safety around the tram network.”

Alfie Daniels and Ariadne Van Krimpen are the first two “Trambassadors” and they will sit on the school’s “Children’s Government” and represent pupils from the school on the scheme.

The Trambassador scheme will include a mix of classroom-based and hands-on learning that fits in with the school curriculum and will also be looking at wider topics including STEM, sustainability and green infrastructure.

This all ties in with NET’s new Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy that seeks to show out they will make a difference in four areas:

  • Environment – underlining the role of sustainable transport powered by 100% green, renewable energy and playing a role in ensuring Nottingham becomes the UK’s first carbon neutral city by 2028
  • Customer Satisfaction – putting passengers at the heart of every decision and improving customer satisfaction
  • Fair Operating Practices – embedding the highest ethical practices and responsible procurement through supply chain management
  • Community – providing jobs, skills and training opportunities as well as supporting local schools, charities and good causes

Commenting on the new strategy, Tim Hesketh added: “he tram is more than just a transport network and we take our responsibility to our customers, local communities, suppliers and the environment very seriously. We are proud of the role we play in the city and are committed to ensuring we have the highest environmental and ethical standards and are playing our role in the communities we serve.”
