Bogie overhaul contracts signed for West Midlands Metro Urbos3 trams

The complete fleet of 21 CAF built Urbos3 trams running on the West Midlands Metro network are to enjoy a bogie overhaul following the signing of a three year contract between Lucchini Unipart Rail (LUR) and Midland Metro Limited (MML).

Described as a three year collaborative contract – with an option for a two year extension – the overhauls will see the gearbox, traction motor and electromagnetic brakes attended to on the complete fleet of Urbos3 trams (numbers 1737).

LUR have been working closely with MML over the past year to gather all technical information regarding the work that will be undertaken and will now be working alongside them again once production is underway.

Amar Gill, Rolling Stock Manager at West Midlands Metro, said: “The work that will be undertaken forms an essential part of our scheduled tram maintenance programme. LUR have experience of undertaking similar projects in both the heavy and light rail sectors and we are pleased to be working with them.”
