In Pictures: First overhead installed at Talbot Square

Since we’ve started these regular updates on the overhead installation on the Blackpool Tramway extension up Talbot Road to Blackpool North Railway Station its been a case of taking a look at the span wires which have been put up each night – until now! The first actual overhead wires for the extension have now been installed with those on the inbound south curve having recently appeared. This latest update takes a look at that wiring as well as popping up to the old Wilko’s site too.

Looking south to north along the Prom on the right hand side our attention is turned towards the skies where we can spot the first overhead wire now in place.

In un-summery weather we look back from Talbot Square towards the Prom and North Pier with the newly installed overhead central.

And another view of that overhead wire – hopefully over the next few months it will be energised and trams may start to be tested under it!

Up at Wilko’s and work is continuing on prepping the track area for concreting. A tent has also been put up just beyond the scissors crossover to allow for welding etc. to take place.

The location of the tram terminus with more rails for installation just visible on the far right. (All Photographs by Tony Armitage, 29th July 2021)

I’m guessing its all being put roughly in place as there’s no evidence of crossovers or frogs on the photos. It will be interesting to see if these are installed at this stage or later.
