Extra ticket checks to be introduced on NET

Passengers attempting to travel on the Nottingham Express Transit network without a ticket from Monday 10 June could be in for a shock as extra ticket inspections are due to be introduced following passenger feedback. Unsurprisingly one of the things which irritates people the most is those passengers who think they don’t have to pay to travel on the tram and NET hope that their new strategy will seriously reduce the number of fare dodgers.

Currently passengers normally have their tickets checked on board the trams by the conductors but at busy times it is not always possible for the conductors to check all tickets. Now Nottingham Express Transit are going to introduce checks on platforms – including after passengers have got off the tram. Anyone who can’t produce a ticket when asked to do so will be asked to purchase one and NET staff do have the right to request the
name and address of anyone travelling without a ticket. People found to be repeatedly travelling without a ticket can be fined up to £1000.
