In Pictures: Overhead installation resumes on Talbot Road

Over the past few weeks a lot of our attention on the Blackpool Tramway extension up Talbot Road to Blackpool North Railway Station has been on the former Wilko’s site where track has finally start to be laid but the next few weeks are likely to see a slight shift in focus with the resumption of overhead installation.

Back in May there was a little bit of overhead work which took place at Talbot Square but no sooner had it started then it stopped with just a few span wires installed. It was mentioned then that it would resume during July and that is set to be the case with overnight road closures due and the return of the cherry pickers to assist with the work. Work started overnight on 4th/5th July with the installation of another two span wires at Talbot Square and is due to carry on for the next four weeks.

The Pod-Trak cherry pickers are back in Talbot Square! In this view two are seen sitting on what will become the railway station bound track on 5th July 2021.

24 hours later and the cherry pickers have multiplied to four!

Two further span wires were installed across the Promenade on the first night of works. (All Photographs by Tony Armitage)
