Lockdown Walks: Stagecoach Supertram 116

“Lockdown Walks” continues today as we again take a trip to Sheffield and view one of the original trams in an all over advert.

The 25 Siemens-Duewag trams were built in Dusseldorf in 1993-4 and over the years a number of them have been treated to various advertising liveries – some better designed than others! One of the plainer, but still effective designs is this one for XPO Logistics on 116 which has been in situ since April 2019. This wasn’t the first time 116 had received an advert though as it was actually the sixth different ad for five different advertisers it has carried since receiving its first in September 2004 (for Meadowhall).

This shot shows 116 passing Dykes Hall Road as it works a Yellow route service from Middlewood to Meadowhall. This is close to the Hillsborough Park stop along Middlewood Road. (Photograph by Stuart Cooke, 22nd January 2021)
