Whatever Happened To? Midland Metro 04

Today we have another edition of our series where we take a look at what happened to the original trams built for the Midland Metro – the T69s.

In this edition we feature 04 which was the second of the trams to arrive during June 1998, this one arriving at Wednesbury Depot on the last day of the month. Having entered service the following year 04 would remain active until withdrawal came in February 2015 (whereas the first three were withdrawn in order, 04 was the ninth to be taken out of service).

It would be 23rd March 2016 that Allely’s collected the tram from Wednesbury taking it to Long Marston for storage and it too would remain there for just over two years before it was sold for scrapping. This took place during 2018 at Booth’s in Rotherham bringing an end to the tram just 20 years after it had been built.
