Great Orme Tramway to remain closed in 2020

It has been announced that the Great Orme Tramway will not run at all during 2020 with the decision made in light of the continued Coronavirus restrictions and the practicalities of running the trams on the two sections between Victoria Station, Halfway and the Summit.

Opening in 1902 (lower section) and 1903 (upper section) the Great Orme Tramway has been transporting visitors to Llandudno to from the town(ish) to the Summit most years since (although was closed between 1932 and 1934 after a serious accident) but in 2020 the cables will remain still and the trams will stay at stabled at the stations as a result of the Coronavirus.

The line usually operates between March and October and so didn’t get the chance to start the season before the restrictions kicked in and it has now been decided that it just isn’t practical to run any form of service for the time that remains in the operating season.

They have promised, however, that they are working on “improving facilities and adding event to make 2021 better than ever”.
