An extended trot on the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway

Since the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway reopened for the 2019 season on 24th May the trammers have only been able to haul the trams for a short section between Derby Castle and Switzerland Road. But on Tuesday 13th August the length of available tramway was extended so that all services are now running from Derby Castle to Palace View Terrace.

Of course, the truncated horse tramway has been running this year because of the major Promenade redevelopment works which as well as the obvious improvements to the road surface are seeing new tram lines installed. These will be in their former centre of the road position all the way to Broadway from where a new single track alignment, with passing loops, will be constructed from there to the Sea Terminal. This work has fallen behind the expected schedule which has led to a shorter length of track available for a longer period than was hoped for but things are on the up with this additional section now open for business.

The reduced timetable with special fares will remain in place until further notice.

Its not known if there will be more sections ready before the 2019 season ends but at least for now the trammers will be able to stretch their legs a bit more to Palace View Terrace.
