Picture in Time: Croydon Tramlink construction

A bit of a difference for today’s archive image as we take a look at construction work rather than a tram.

This photo was taken in October 1998 and is at the fairly familiar location of Reeves Corner where the line turns down Tamworth Road to enter the central Croydon loop. The line here will be double track although Reeves Corner itself was built with – and continues to have to this day – only an inbound platform. Tracks from Reeves Corner are seen being installed on the left turning into Tamworth Road whilst there will also be tracks coming from Church Street straight ahead.
