2017 has seen another increase in passengers for Dublin’s Luas network with 37.6 million passenger journeys recorded over the 12 months. This was an increase of 10.26% of figures from 2016.
The Luas increase is part of a combined 7% increase in passengers across all state supported public transport operators in Ireland (also including Dublin Bus, Bus Eireann and Iarnrod Eireann. In total there were 251 million passenger journeys on all those operators.
The figures for 2018 are expected to be even higher with Luas playing its part in this following the opening of the Cross City extension of the Green line which is anticipated to provide 10 million extra journeys in its first year.
