Midland Metro Alliance appoint Director

Midland Metro Alliance – the body set-up to oversee the expansion of Midland Metro – has appointed a new Director. Alejandro Moreno, currently Managing Director for Scandinavia for Colas Rail, is the man who has been tasked with leading this body as Midland Metro prepares for a period of major expansion.

Mr Moreno replaced interim director Iain Anderson who has returned to his previous role at Colas Rail. His previous experience has included a period as General Manager of Tranvia de Zaragoza in Spain – in this role he had experience in delivering a tram network free from overhead power lines, something which will be coming to Midland Metro on the extension to Centenary Square.

Phil Hewitt, Metro Programme Director for the WMCA, said: “Everyone at the alliance is delighted at Alejandro’s appointment. He has an extensive range of business, operational and major project experience and a clear passion for and strong commitment to the success of the alliance in line with its established principles.”

The Midland Metro Alliance is a team of planning, design and construction specialists building four new tram extensions over the next decade on behalf of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). It consists of the WMCA, rail construction specialists Colas Rail (with Colas’ partners Colas Ltd, Barhale, Thomas Vale, which is part of Bouygues UK, and Auctus Management Group) and a consortium of design experts from Egis, Tony Gee and Pell Frischman.
