In Pictures: M5000 3110 into service as 3111 arrives

The Manchester Metrolink fleet of M5000s has increased again, both with those now operational and those actually in Manchester. 3110 has now carried its first passengers having arrived in the city back on 23rd January whilst on 13th February 3111 became the latest of the trams to arrive at Queen’s Road Depot having made the trip across from Germany.

3110 was noted in service on Saturday 13th February and was working solo on the Rochdale to Ashton service. In this photo we see the tram at Rochdale Railway Station.

3110 seen again working through to Ashton as it is caught in Oldham.

3111 arrived at Queen's Road at 1115 and is seen here on the back of the low loader.

3111 disappears into the depot complex where it was unloaded and moved into the workshops for a start to be made on the commisisoning of the tram which will include the application of vinyls to complete the livery. (All Photographs by Steve Kemp)

  1. Erik Ickerbobs says:

3111 is the first M5000 with a zero.

  2. John G says:

Have ridden on quite a few of the latest trams recently (3095 onwards). £2 million each and the vandals have already made their mark. Such a shame when each tram has about eight CCTV cameras. Haven’t seen any prosecutions in the local press so it must be costing Metrolink a packet.

  3. Peter Lea says:

Surely 3111 is the first of all the three different classes of new generation Manchester trams without a zero in the fleet number?
