Two more Tyne and Wear Metro scrappings

There have been two further scrapping of Tyne and Wear Metro units since our last update as 4011 and 4066 have headed off on one final journey.

4011 was the first to make the journey on 17th October 2025 and it was quickly followed by 4066 on 21st October 2025. Both went the usual way – moved to Howdon for their last journey on the rails and then loaded onto a lorry there (for 4066 that saw it move under its own power onto the trailer!) for the trip to J Denham Metals where the scrapping takes place.

40 of the original 90 Metrocars have now been sent for scrap whilst 4001 has gone into preservation at the Stephenson Steam Railway and 4019 moved to the Tyne and Wear Fire Service training centre.
