Edinburgh Trams have been nominated in the Rail Operator of the Year category at the National Transport Awards, which take place later this year. Those nominated in this category have been shortlisted based on performance, reliability, passenger growth, customer satisfaction and initiatives to improve service.
Ian Craig, Chief Executive at Transport for Edinburgh, commented: “Being nominated within this prestigious category is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire tram team. Since we launched the service in May 2014 its popularity has continued to grow, and the people of Edinburgh have really taken trams into their hearts. By the end of our first year of operations we carried nearly 5 million passengers and achieved a 95% customer satisfaction rating. Receiving this recognition from our industry peers further highlights Edinburgh Trams commitment to provide a world class service to Edinburgh’s residents and visitor’s.”
After all the media vilification and political attempts to stop the project, the Edinburgh Tramway has confounded the critics and is a wonderful success. I hope all the critics will apologise now and admit they were wrong.
I do hope that money can be found – even by the Scots Parliament, which is, reasonably enough, fed up with the whole business – to get on with the full northward extension down Leith Walk and beyond. After all most of the underground work has been done for this stretch of line!
And the trams have been delivered.
