Anniversaries celebrated on Midland Metro and Edinburgh

The past week has seen anniversaries celebrated on both Midland Metro and Edinburgh Trams, although in the case of the former especially celebrated would probably be the wrong word! For Midland Metro the end of May marks the 18th anniversary of the first public runs on the line whilst Edinburgh Trams is far newer with 31st May being the third anniversary of the opening.

Krefeld 412 finds shelter at last!

With an emphasis on Blackpool trams, its easy to forget sometimes that the North Eastern Electrical Traction Trust are also the proud owners of two trams from much further afield. Last winter, Graz 210 was brought to Washington near Sunderland to join the rest of the collection in the specially-built storage shed, and it has now been joined by Krefeld 412, the single-ended German Duewag car which was previously stored in the car park at the North East Land, Sea & Air Museum.

Two more Blackpool trams to return to Rigby Road

After a period of time out in the cold, two further Blackpool trams are set to return home to the sanctuary of Rigby Road depot thanks to an agreement between their current owner and the Blackpool Heritage Trust. Both Brush Railcoach 625 and Balloon 726 are presently stored at Fleetwood with the majority of the Fleetwood Heritage Leisure Trust’s tramcar collection, but should soon be making the short road journey back to the depot where they were based for much of their working lives.

In Pictures: Tram Train works continue

The Spring Bank Holiday weekend saw further works taking place to bring the Sheffield to Rotherham Tram Train project to fruition. National rail services through Rotherham were cancelled over the weekend to allow a new bridge to be put in place. This bridge runs over the tracks at the main Rotherham railway station and needed replacement in order for the overhead wires to be installed. Stuart Cooke provides us with photos of the new bridge.

Double decker 18 to see regular use throughout summer

With the horses of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway now seemingly back up to full health some more good news from the only horse tramway in British Isles is that double deck tram no. 18 is to see regular use throughout the summer. In a similar fashion to the use of 1 or 2 on the Manx Electric Railway, 18 will be used when timetable P is in operation, subject to the usual caveats.
