M5000 3125 arrives in Manchester as 3121 returns to service

The latest of the M5000 trams on order for Manchester Metrolink from Bombardier has arrived at Queens Road Depot with 3125 being delivered on Saturday 17th April – back in its regular Saturday slot after the last arrival turned up in an usual midweek delivery.

In Pictures: Edinburgh Trams services into city centre suspended after fire

Edinburgh Trams services between York Place and West End were suspended for around four hours on Monday 19th April after a fire in the now closed Debenhams store on Princes Street led to a cordon around the shop. Trams were stranded in the affected section with pantographs lowered while the fire service were on site to put the fire out.

In Pictures: Blackpool Towing Car 671 moves to St Helens

As was revealed earlier this year, Blackpool Towing car 671 has a new home with its movement to the North West Museum of Road Transport taking place on Sunday 18th April. It will be a new exhibit at the museum when it reopens from Sunday 23rd May and is due to receive a repaint into original colours to represent the era before the Twin Cars were permanently coupled to their trailers.

In Pictures: Manual point changing in Sheffield

Over the past few days there has been a fault with the automatic points at Hillsborough Corner on Stagecoach Supertram where the Blue route diverges from the Yellow route as it heads down Holme Lane. This has required the manual operating of the points so that trams can still travel down to Malin Bridge as seen in the below photo from Stuart Cooke.

Trams in Video: Blackpool Tramway 2011

In 2011 the traditional Blackpool Tramway ran for the last time with it closing for the winter to allow the completion of the major upgrade to allow modern light rail vehicles to operate the day to day service. Whilst there would still be a heritage service in years to come this was the last time that they would be running the core service and in this latest “Trams in Video” we see the remaining trams of the fleet in action during those final few months.

Final piece of track welded into place on Birmingham Westside extension

As milestones of a project go its pretty major, and now the last piece of track for the second phase of the Birmingham Westside extension of the West Midlands Metro has been welded into place. The final piece to be put into its final position was on Hagley Road, close to the terminus of the line, and marks the end of track laying and means the start of passenger services – “later in 2021” – moves a step closer.

All change at Crich as Derby 1 and Cardiff 21 get set to say goodbye

2021 looks set to be a year of change at the Crich Tramway Village with restorations start to come to a conclusion while work will start on the major restoration of Blackpool Brush Railcoach 298. With 298 set to be moved back to Crich from Clay Cross later this year it means that there will be some changes to those trams on display – both Derby 1 and Cardiff 21 will be leaving the museum site but not before they have one last day out in the open.
