Tyne and Wear Metro punctuality down

The punctuality figures on the Tyne and Wear Metro have fallen in both of the last two four week periods although despite that they are still at a reltaively high rate. The latest data covers the periods between 2nd and 29th May and 30th May to 26th June with the posters still not giving any more details than the headline figures.

Luas Engineering Works: 31st July to 2nd August

The August Bank Holiday weekend in Ireland (which is at the start of month) will see some further engineering works take place on Luas’ Red Line throughout the weekend. Services will be affected on Saturday 31st July, Sunday 1st August and Monday 2nd August.

In Pictures: Latest from the overhead installation in Blackpool

The steady progress of the overhead installation on the tramway extension in Blackpool has been continuing over the past few days. The project remains concentrated at the Prom end of the line and recent work has included moving the wires on the mainline to be fixed to new poles and removing wiring from the ones which won’t be used in the future. The apparent four week project has now reached the end of its third week. Tony Armitage with the latest images.

Punctuality and reliability falls on Metrolink

The Manchester Metrolink performance statistics seem to have gone quarterly with the last three periods data all released in one go recently. Covering the first three periods of the 2021/22 financial year between 1st April and 26th June 2021 they show that there has been a fall in both punctuality and reliability, although both remain over 90%.

Tram derailed in Sheffield after collision with lorry

Stagecoach Supertram’s Siemens-Duewag tram 105 has been derailed close to the stop at Hyde Park on the Yellow route after colliding with a lorry. The tram was heading away from the city with a Yellow route service to Meadowhall when the accident happened.

In Pictures: Timelapse video released of demolition work at Gosforth Depot

Nexus have released a timelapse video of the demolition work which has taken place at the Tyne and Wear Metro Gosforth Depot from the start of work last winter. The video showcases the first six months of the project to redevelop the depot and shows the old building being razed to the ground up to the more recent enabling and foundation works. This article also takes a pictorial look at some of the recent progress seen at the depot.

No evening trams for Tramlines festival after all

Earlier in the week when we reported on the overhead issues on Stagecoach Supertram we also mentioned that a special service would be running this weekend in connection with the Tramlines festival. However, the decision has now been made to change the planned service after a surge in employees being contacted through the NHS Test and Trace system.

In Pictures: West Midlands Metro 22 gets new advert as part of recruitment campaign

Urbos3 22 is now running in a new advert as West Midlands Metro have launched a new recruitment campaign. Using the slogan “M is for” the campaign is highlighting how the West Midlands Metro is providing new opportunities with more than 160 new jobs being created along with the expansion of the network. Jobs include tram drivers, mechanics and engineers, ticket inspectors and a whole range of support staff.

Inquest rules Tramlink crash an accident

The inquest into the London Tramlink derailment at Sandilands in November 2016 has ruled that it was an accident following nine days of deliberations by the jury. The ruling has been met with anger and disappointment by the families of those who lost their lives in the derailment with claims that several key witnesses were not called by the coroner which may have led to a different decision.

More overhead woes on the West Midlands Metro
