East Anglia Transport Museum get two more Blackpool trams!

The East Anglia Transport Museum in Carlton Colville shows no signs of slowing down with their acquisitions following the news that two more Blackpool trams have made the long journey east – Brush Car 625 and Balloon Car 726. Both trams have been latterly owned by the Fylde Transport Trust but after negotiations ownership will be transferred to the East Anglia Transport Museum with the pair having already travelled to Carlton Colville.

In Pictures: West Midlands Metro services disrupted after car finds way onto the tracks at St Chads

If its not one thing its another disrupting services on the West Midlands Metro. Sunday 27th November saw disruption for the service and it was no fault of the trams as a car was driven onto the tracks becoming stuck just beyond the stop at St Chads – and the first attempts to rescue it were thwarted as well.

In Pictures: Preserved Edinburgh Trams in Scotland

Think of trams in Edinburgh and now you probably immediately think of the modern system which links the Airport with the city centre. Then if you think of preservation then it is probably Edinburgh 35 which is on static display at Crich. But there are a couple of other preserved Edinburgh trams which don’t get much look in on this website – both are at the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum in Dunfermline.

With the strikes now over on the West Midlands Metro it should now all be systems go in operating the service and in the lead up to Christmas it has been announced that extra trams will be running at peak times (although these are not mentioned on the published timetable which retains “every 12 minutes” as the frequency throughout the bulk of the day). In Pictures: Birmingham Eastside extension works progress

Likely to be the next but one extension of the West Midlands Metro to open to the public, the Birmingham Eastside extension saw the first major signs of work last year with the installation of the delta junction at Bull Street/Corporation Street in Birmingham City Centre. With trams not set to use the junction onto Lower Bull Street and then ultimately to High Street Deritend for a while yet (there still remains no official opening date – even a year – for the line but the way things go with WMM extensions that could well be sensible!) there remains a great deal of work to complete on the rest of the route and in this pictorial update we take a look at what has been going on in recent weeks. Ken Jones is the photographer.

Readers of this website will probably be well aware that although trams in Edinburgh are running to York Place to use the crossover there is no longer a stop there with services back to the Airport starting at St Andrew Square. Unfortunately, it would appear that normal tram users aren’t so aware as the photo in this article shows.

In Pictures: 28 in service on the West Midlands Metro

If you cast your mind back to June/July 2022 you may remember that West Midlands Metro Urbos3 28 departed Wednesbury Depot for Wolverton Works where it would receive repairs to the bodyside cracks. The tram spent around a month there before it returned to its home tramway but its use since its return has not been extensive. It does now seem to have settled into more regular use though as seen in this pictorial update.
