NET staff vote in favour of strike action

Staff on Nottingham Express Transit could strike in the lead up to Christmas after a ballot by the GMB Union over the apparent threat by NET to withdraw payments to two terminally ill staff members. 94% of those who voted were in favour of strikes and talks are continuing between the two parties before any strike days are confirmed.

The information as to exactly what may be withdrawn by NET to the two terminally ill staff members has been rather sketchy but the union have alleged that the operators of the tram network have said they may withdraw from the Dying to Work Charter. This charter guarantees income protection for terminally ill workers.

Throughout the dispute there has been no official comment from NET as they were unwilling to make a statement while the two sides were still negotiating. This currently remains the position so we remain in the dark what they have or haven’t said about the income of David Brown and Robert Currie.

It was reported in the past couple of weeks that NET had agreed to remain a signatory to the charter but again there has been no official word on this.

A spokesperson from NET said: “Talks are ongoing. We won’t be making any further statement until those conclude.”
