Further section of track re-opens at Seaton

Trams are now able to run on two separate sections of the Seaton Tramway following the completion of the first stage of repairs required because of storm damage suffered shortly before the tramway opened for the 2014 season. As you may remember trams were initially limited to operate between Colyton and Colyford but as from Saturday 8th March trams can now also run between Seaton and Axmouth loop.

Engineers and contractors have been hard at work to reinstate the section of track running from Seaton to Axmouth loop over the past few weeks and it has now been sufficiently completed to allow trams to run in passenger service. Work required on this section included a major clean-up operation and also the laying of tonnes of fill and track ballast to ensure a smooth ride for passengers.

This weekend coincides with the annual Grizzly event in Seaton which sees the town busier than usual with runners and spectators converging on the area and the operation of a service from the Seaton terminus is seen as a major boost.

Trams will now run between Seaton and Axmouth loop and from Colyford to Colyton (the latter service using trams 6 and 8 which were transported to Colyton last month) until the major repairs on the section between Axmouth loop and Colyford are completed with Easter the target date for this.

During this disruption a “Rainbow ticket” is available for a special price of £5 for adults and £2.50 for children. This can either be used for a round trip between Colyton and Colyford and Seaton to Axmouth loop on the day of purchase or alternatively you can travel on one section and return again for free before Easter to travel on the other section.
