We hit the number 5 as “Numbers” continues today.
Once again there were plenty of choices to select for this number (and that’s just heritage trams!) but we have settled on Stockport 5. Now calling home the Heaton Park Tramway, it first ran in preservation during a spell in Blackpool (which unfortunately saw more periods of inactivity than operation). A double deck open topper, 5 was built in 1901 and by the time final withdrawal came in 1948 it had acquired a covered top deck. Sold on for further use before being rescued for preservation in 1971. Moving to Blackpool in 1996, it stayed there until 2011 when a move to Heaton Park followed. A full and comprehensive overhaul came after a couple of years of operation with it back in action in Manchester at the end of 2020.
