In Pictures: A look at the new Magna Tram-Train station

Due to open in early 2026 (date to be announced) work on the new Magna Tram-Train station has been progressing well over the past few months. It is now entering its next phase which means there will be no further disruption to Tram-Train services (March-November 2025 saw no services after 1700 on a Saturday) and its hoped it won’t be too far before passengers will be able to use it.

The new station features platforms either side of the tracks (linked by a footbridge) and has an indicative cost of £10 million (which includes £8.1 million funding from the Transforming Cities Fund). Not only providing access to the popular Magna Science Adventure Centre, it is also aimed at reducing congestion and poor air quality within the Lower Don Valley and A6178 corridor.

As well as the station, a 100 space park and ride site will also be built (work on this is yet to start in earnest).

This view is looking northwest and shows the newly installed footbridge. The footbridge will be fully accessible.

The platforms will be staggered. Here we see the east end of the Rotherham bound platform.

Another look at the Magna tram-train station. There was disruption to the tram-train service on this visit because of a signal failure, also causing problems for railway services as we see a container train halted on the tracks through the station.
