National Transport Awards 2025 shortlist announced

The National Transport Awards 2025 will be taking place on 2nd October 2025 in London and in preparation for the glitzy ceremony (to be hosted by TV presenter Steph McGovern with Lilian Greenwood MP – Minister for Future of Roads at the DfT – the keynote speaker) the shortlist for the lengthy number of categories has been announced.

As far as this website is concerned the main category is “Tram Operator of the Year” and the shortlist for that award is as follows:

  • Blackpool Transport Services Limited
  • Edinburgh Trams
  • West Midlands Metro

Also of interest is the “Design, Engineering & Construction Project of the Year” where Transport for West Midlands have been shortlisted for the Metro delta junction at Wednesbury which will see trams accessing the new Black Country line later this year. That is a stacked category with no fewer than 10 nominees, this also includes major projects such as the East West Rail line phase 2 and the Levenmouth Rail Link project.

Blackpool Transport are also nominated in the “Digital and Technology Excellence” category for their use of innovative AI software to enhance bus routes and timetables. Jane Cole, Managing Director for Blackpool Transport, was understandably delighted with the nominations: “Considering the reputation of some of the organisations we’re competing against, we’ve done extremely well to be shortlisted in two key award categories. This reflects the huge strides we’ve made in improving both tram and bus services in Blackpool and surrounding areas, and the hard work and dedication shown by our team over the past 12 months.”

“We now have to wait until October to hear if we are among the winners, but in the meantime, we’ll continue to work tirelessly on driving up the performance of our tram and bus network.”

The National Transport Awards are organised by trade publication Transport Times and aims to highlight “the unwavering commitment, expertise, and innovation of those working tirelessly to improve our transport networks across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.”
