Transport for Greater Manchester and Blackpool Transport have become two of the latest transport operators who have confirmed that military personnel, veterans and cadets will be able to travel free on their services throughout the Armed Forces Day weekend, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June 2025.
This will cover travel on not only the Blackpool Tramway and Manchester Metrolink but also Blackpool Transport and Bee Network bus services.
In both places free travel will be permitted to anyone who is carrying a valid ID (MOD90 card, Service ID card or a veterans’ badge/ID card) whilst in Manchester cadets travelling in uniform will also qualify.
Danny Vaughan, Chief Network Officer at Transport for Greater Manchester, said: “The Armed Forces community makes an invaluable contribution to our society, and we’re showing our appreciation with free travel on Bee Network buses and trams across Greater Manchester this weekend. It’s a special weekend and one we’re proud to get behind as part of our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant – a promise from the nation that those who serve or have served, and their families, are treated fairly.”
Jane Cole, Blackpool Transport Managing Director, said: “We have a long tradition of recruiting former members of the army, navy and air force, and are immensely proud of our colleagues who have previously served their country.
“Blackpool Transport recognises the broad range of skills they bring to the workplace, and the huge contribution that serving and former members of the armed forces make to the wider community.
“With several events taking place locally to mark Armed Forces Day, we want to help as many people as possible to enjoy the celebrations whilst paying our own tribute to all the brave servicemen and women who have selflessly served their country.”
