Picture in Time: Blackpool OMO 8

Back to Blackpool once more for another edition of “Picture in Time”.

This is another image taken in July 1979 and was taken shortly before the image of Jubilee 761 we feature a couple of weeks ago. Brush car 633 is sandwiched between two OMO cars as the trio heads south along the Central Promenade. The leading car, 8, which will terminate at Pleasure Beach on route 3, displays the drooping end which characterised the type and looks slightly work-stained. Woolworths’ clocktower is surrounded by scaffolding in the days when the company was maintaining its property portfolio well, little thinking that the entire chain would close down in 2009.

OMO 8 survives today and is part of the Fylde Transport Trust collection with it remaining stored at Rigby Road Depot having last run (briefly in 2010). Brush 633 is another tram which is at Rigby Road but it looks very different today as it was converted in 2001 into the Illuminated Trawler (now renumbered 737), it is still owned by Blackpool Transport and was last seen in operation in 2023.
