In Pictures: Trackwork underway in Piccadilly Gardens

Manchester Metrolink is once again running a revised service with more major investment in improving and maintaining the infrastructure underway in Piccadilly Gardens. This is the start of a lengthy closure between Piccadilly Gardens and Piccadilly Station, which will last for around two months.

The closure started on Tuesday 3rd June and will remain in place until the end of service on Sunday 10th August. Throughout this two and a bit month period no trams will be able to run to Piccadilly from the main part of the network. It means all trams from Altrincham and Bury will just run direct between the two termini, whilst Eccles services will be diverted to Victoria and run via MediaCityUK.

For the Ashton and Etihad Campus services they will only run to Piccadilly and a number of trams are being out-based on this section of the network to operate that service. Currently 3067, 3089, 3107, 3109, 3111, 3114, 3116, 3125, 3134, 3135, 3141 and 3147 are all on the East Manchester line to operate the service (with spares). This list includes one advert tram in the shape of 3089 with Hits Radio vinyls.

The first site of work is at Piccadilly Gardens on the delta junction (but not impacting the through line between Mosley Street and Market Street). This view shows the curve to Mosley Street where track has already been removed.

A day later and progress has been made on the removal of track into Mosley Street.
