Last featured on these pages in October 2022 it has been confirmed that Pwllheli & Llandbedrog 1 is no longer on display at Plas Glyn Y Weddw, its home since 2016.
No. 1 is the sole surviving tram from the Pwllheli & Llanbedrog system and is owned by Pwllheli Council. The tramway was a horse operated system throughout its 34 year history between 1894 and 1928 and ran on a 3 foot gauge. Closing in two stages in 1927 and 1928 (the first part closing after the trackbed washed away) it remained privately owned until the end with the local council declining the offer to purchase it which led to its final closure.
No. 1 was sold on at the time of closure and was discovered on a farm in 1969. It moved to Southport in 1986 and was restored by members of the British Horse Tram Enthusiasts before being moved to Plas Glyn Y Weddw in Llanbedrog in 2016 with it being displayed on a short section of track outside.
Its not known exactly when it was moved from this position but it was definitely still there in June 2021. At the time there were concerns about its condition and presumably this helped make the decision that it should be moved into undercover storage in an unknown location.
