Repairs continue to Luas bridge damaged in fire

19th August 2025 saw a major fire in Dublin City Centre which caused significant damage to George’s Dock Bridge, used by Luas on the way to The Point. Since this date no trams have been able to run from Connolly to The Point whilst a major project to replace the damaged bridge takes place, with Luas having recently given another update on progress.

All work remains on target for completion to allow services to resume in November. So far, progress has included the foundations for both the east and west abutments being completed whilst fabrication of the new bridge beams being well underway and these should be delivered to the site soon.

Preparations for the reinstallation of Overhead Line Equipment are progressing and should take place during November. Track slab design and associated civil works are also moving forward as per the original schedule.

Whilst the work takes place, no trams are running from Connolly to The Point with a replacement bus being operated instead between the two via the intermediate stops (or as close as possible to them) at George’s Dock, Mayor Square NCI and Spencer Dock. This is running every 10 minutes during normal Luas operating hours.
