Following on from our reports a few weeks ago that work was underway in earnest on the construction of a car park next to Blackpool North Station tram terminus it has now been confirmed that it has opened to the public, as we see in the below photos from Peter Dockerty.
As you’ll remember, when the tramway extension opened the terminus was surrounded by what can best be described as wasteground with development plans having stalled. It had been decided last year that it would become a (temporary) car park but despite this no real work took place until last month, and once they got going fairly rapid progress was made allowing it to open in time for Easter to provide additional car parking in the town.

With fresh tarmac and neater fencing the area around the approach to the tram terminus now looks a lot better that it once did. Whilst it may not be an ideal use of the land it certainly makes a big difference in comparison to the temporary orange fencing and waste ground. 012 departs for Starr Gate.
This should make a useful mini park and ride for those wishing to continue their onward journey to the resort’s attractions by tram. Maybe not a major contributor to tram usage but every little helps. In addition, refreshment facilities have opened adjacent to the tram terminus.
