Manchester Metrolink’s M5000 3013 spent an evening away from the depot after it was hit by a car on Droylsden Road on the route to Ashton-under-Lyne. The accident happened at around 2115 on Friday 14th March and led to the service on that line being suspended for the remainder of the evening.
The driver of the car – a man in his 40s – was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving. There were not reported injuries as a result of the collision.
The tram had to be moved to Ashton-under-Lyne to allow a service to resume at the start of the following day. The damage sustained by the tram was to an extent which meant it was not possible to return it the depot until it had received further attention, with the tram being stabled at the terminus until it could be moved overnight.
