Edinburgh Trams celebrate women in light rail

As International Women’s Day is celebrated, Edinburgh Trams are the latest tram operator to mark the occasion with a look at some of their female colleagues who are living examples that the sector isn’t completely dominated by men.

Throughout March, Edinburgh Trams will be sharing interviews with a number of women who work at the company. This will include Sarah Singh, Head of Service Delivery, Marlene Pearson-McGrath, Training Manager, Catriona Anderson, Revenue Protection Manager, and Kira Sutter, tram driver. They will discuss their experiences in the sector as they seek to encourage others to follow in their footsteps.

Sue Bucher, Edinburgh Trams Head of HR, said: “As a business, one of our primary goals is to make sure we foster equality across the entire team. The fact that so many roles here are occupied by women shows that we’ve become an attractive place regardless of gender.  The Service Delivery department is the backbone of Edinburgh Trams and is led by Sarah. If you’re out and about in the city, you’ll also see women driving trams all along the network. As we continue to grow, we want to encourage even more women to choose public transport as their career path.”

Each interview will be posted on the Edinburgh Trams YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@edinburgh_trams. The first is available now and sees Sarah Singh give her experiences.
