Its been quite a week for Edinburgh Trams as they have won not one, not two but three awards at two separate ceremonies held in London. Included in the wins were Most Improved System at the Global Light Rail Awards whilst at the National Transport Awards they were named as UK Tram Operator of the Year.
Following the opening of the Trams to Newhaven extension in June 2023, Edinburgh Trams have enjoyed a record-breaking year with passenger numbers having doubled and these award wins are a recognition of that.
To complete a hattrick of award wins, the Global Light Rail Awards also saw them win Best Customer Initiative for their efforts to move the crowds to Taylor Swift’s concerts held at Murrayfield Stadium in the summer.
Lea Harrison, Managing Director of Edinburgh Trams, said: “To be recognised by colleagues from across light rail, and the wider transport sector, is a real achievement and the entire team can be proud of their efforts to secure these prestigious titles.
“The awards also reflect the continued popularity of our trams with both local residents and the millions of visitors the city attracts every year.”
