Classical music on a tram!

If when you’ve been on a tram and sat there thinking “you know what, it would be so much better if there was some classical music on board” then you are in for a treat on the West Midlands Metro in the last week of August. Having already performed once (Tuesday 27th August), the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra’s (CBSO) Music Director, Kazuki Yamada, will be playing a captivating piano soundtrack on Thursday 29th August.

The music performance – which is part of a week-long series of events designed to showcase the orchestra’s talents – should be on board a tram which departs Library at 1030 with it heading to Wolverhampton Railway Station. The return trip from Piper’s Row, Wolverhampton will then be at 1142 (timings are subject to change).

The performance is part of the continued partnership between the West Midlands Metro and CBSO which has not only included a wrap on tram 45 but given discounted travel to concertgoers.

Michael Reading Skilton, West Midlands Metro’s Head of Commercials, said: “Our partnership, which offers discounted travel to CBSO ticketholders and performers, has been a resounding success since its launch last year. We’re proud to support the arts and enrich the cultural landscape across the region we serve.

“We can’t wait to welcome Kazuki aboard our trams, and we’re sure his performances will make for some memorable journeys for customers who will have the chance to listen to one of the country’s top pianists for the price of a Metro ticket!”
