The recent Scottish Transport Awards saw more success for Edinburgh Trams with the team responsible for launching services of the 3 mile extension to Newhaven being named Transport Team/Partnership of the Year. These prestigious awards recognise the best of transport across Scotland and show that fellow transport professionals have seen the good work being undertaken in Edinburgh.
In making the announcement of the award win, the judges noted the commitment and attention to detail of the Edinburgh Trams team. The expanded Edinburgh Trams Service Delivery Team worked closely with the wider Trams to Newhaven project team to ensure that when it came to the public launch of services it did so without a hitch.
Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, said: “We’re thrilled to see that the team’s hard work and commitment are being recognised by colleagues from across the transport sector.
“Their efforts are certainly paying off, with customer numbers doubling since the completion of the Trams to Newhaven project, which has brought a wealth of benefits to key areas in the city, including Leith and Ocean Terminal.
“As new proposals for future tram extensions are put forward, we’re confident our broad experience and management skills honed over the years will help us step up to the challenges ahead.”
As well as Edinburgh Trams winning this award, Hannah Ross, Head of Major Projects and Commissioning at the City of Edinburgh Council was recognised with an “Outstanding Contribution to Transport Award”. Hannah has been a pivotal figure in the success of the trams extension alongside other responsibilities.
