Metro anniversary celebrations launched with design competition

With 30th May marking the 25th anniversary of the West Midlands Metro the birthday celebrations have been kicked off with a competition aimed at primary schools across the region. Local primary schools are being asked to submit designs for a special anniversary emblem that will feature prominently during the celebrations – including on the side of trams.

Managing Director of West Midlands Metro, Sophie Allison, explains more about the competition: “Since the Metro opened in 1999, it has grown significantly and is more popular than ever, with tens of thousands of people of all ages using it every day for work, school or leisure. We recognise that young people will have a vital role to play in our future success, and that’s why we are putting them at the heart of our celebrations. The entries will be judged by the Metro team, and we will be looking for a design that reflects our commitment to connecting people and communities.”

To be in with a  chance of winning, entries need to be submitted by participating schools by Monday 29th April. Schools can register their interest now and if a winning entry is from one of their pupils will be in with a chance of winning £500.

As well as the winning design featuring on the side of trams and on merchandise, the winner (and classmates and a teacher) will enjoy a VIP behind the scenes tour of Wednesbury Depot.

This event is tailored towards children but Sophie did also reveal that there will be opportunities for customer participation in the anniversary celebrations with more details to be unveiled during April.
