Tram update from Edinburgh Trams

A previous version of this article was published on 9 January 2024 with incorrect information. This has now been updated (11 January 2024) to remove the wrong information which was published in good faith.

With a fleet of 27 trams, one thing the Edinburgh Trams network does not have is a tram shortage and although the number needed has increased since the Newhaven extension opened there are still occasions when certain trams spend more time off the road for regular maintenance. That does mean that sometimes changes to the appearance of trams doesn’t always get reported so we have a bit of a round-up here of recent changes.

A recent advert change has been seen on 275. Last seen advertising Play at Edinburgh Park these vinyls were removed in December 2023 and have now been replaced by a new advert for the Edinburgh Solicitor’s Property Centre (ESPC). ESPC previously advertised on 272 between July 2022 and October 2023. This also means that there are no trams advertising Edinburgh Park or its associated developments.

One tram which hasn’t been seen in use for a while was 261, but it returned to action on 6th January 2024. It had been out of use for around six weeks waiting for a replacement part but it is now back in use. 261 received new advertising vinyls for Scottish Rugby in October 2023.

Finally, ice breaker trams for this winter period have been set as 256, 257, 268, 269 and 270. These will be used to clear the wires of ice when needed.
