Storm Amy causes problems for Blackpool

Storm Amy – the first named storm of the 2025/6 season – caused havoc for the Blackpool Tramway with its strong winds leading to service disruption over a couple of days, including the complete suspension of the tramway for a time.

The strong winds first came in off the Irish Sea on Saturday 4th October and no trams ran at the start of the day as any damage was assessed by engineers. From around 1200 a service was able to operate between North Station and Fleetwood only, although this was later suspended from 1630. Sunday 5th October also started with no trams operating, with a full service only able to resume (after all repairs were completed) from approximately 1630.

And talking of tram services, it has been confirmed that the third and final round of the World Fireworks Championships on Saturday 11th October will once again see the revised tram service operating from 1800. This sees all trams from Starr Gate running directly to Fleetwood (and vice versa) every 12 minutes with the addition of a shuttle service between North Station and Little Bispham (using two trams) running up to every 24 minutes. This timetable has already successfully run on three occasions (cancelled round one, round one and round two of the Championships) and is one of the reasons why they recently won Tram Operator of the Year at the National Transport Awards.
