Overhead line problems cause Sheffield service change

There were changes to services being run on Stagecoach Supertram on Friday 6th October following an overhead line problem on the route to Meadowhall. The problem was at Carbrook and meant there were changes to services both on the Yellow route and the Tram-Train service.

Starting from early on the 6th October the following changes were put in place:

  • YELLOW – suspended between Arena and Meadowhall. Trams from Middlewood terminated at Arena
  • TRAM-TRAIN – suspended in its entirety

Ticket acceptance was introduced on Stagecoach and First bus services between the city centre, Meadowhall and Rotherham and also on Northern Rail services to and from Rotherham.

The problem was fixed during the day and normal services were able to resume before the end of the day.

This was the second issue for Supertram services during the week. On Tuesday 2nd October a car overturned on the tracks on City Road leading to problems on the Blue and Purple routes. The incident happened at around 0640 (no tram was involved) and meant that services were suspended between Sheffield Station and Gleadless Townend until around about 0800.
